Lorenzo & Pasquale Ventapane, 1820
“A cello named Angelo”
Art. Nr.
5454
Finest and important Italian cello by Lorenzo & Pasquale Ventapane, Naples around 1820
Brothers Lorenzo and Pasquale Ventapane worked together for a long time. During this time, they built instruments of various qualities. The cellos that were created during this time are among the most sought after. This extraordinary instrument is certainly one of the best works of these two brothers. The highly sought after and powerful instrument is in an almost crack-free and fascinatingly perfect state of preservation. The transparent, typical Neapolitan, yellowish-brown lacquer is almost completely preserved. This is a soloist instrument of the very first category in a sensationally perfect state of preservation. Certificate from Roland Baumgartner, BaselThe cello is named “Angelo” due to its wing-like wood grain, which looks like wings on the bottom of the cello.
